01

History of the County Meet

Where Liberia's county sporting tradition began.

The Liberia National County Meet is one of the country's longest running national sporting traditions. The competition was inaugurated in 1956, bringing counties together through sport and creating a platform for communities to celebrate their identity, talent and county pride.

Over the years, the County Meet has grown beyond football itself. It has become a major national gathering that brings Liberians together from different counties and communities while giving talented players an opportunity to represent the places they call home.

The National County Sports Meet is organized and hosted through the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

More than competition The County Meet combines sport, county pride, community, culture and national togetherness.

How Players Join Their County Team

From justification and assessment to county selection.

01
STEP ONE

Justification

Players can take part in a justification and assessment process organized for their respective counties. This gives players an opportunity to demonstrate their ability and compete for a place on the county team.

02
STEP TWO

Assessment

Coaches and county football officials assess the players taking part and observe their performances during the selection process.

03
STEP THREE

Selection

Players who impress during the process can be selected to represent their county in the County Meet.

Representing your county

The process gives players an opportunity to earn a place on their county team and represent the county on one of Liberia's biggest sporting stages.

The December Tradition

Football, home coming and county pride.

2026 SCHEDULING

A sporting tradition that brings people home

The County Meet has traditionally been associated with the holiday period, when communities come together to celebrate football and county pride.

For the 2026 edition, the scheduling is being positioned around the December period, helping connect the competition with the holiday and home coming season.

For many Liberians living abroad, the holiday period is an opportunity to return home. The County Meet gives returning Liberians an opportunity to watch matches, support their counties and reconnect with family, friends and communities.
